It was as though, during our slumber, the bed extended miles wide and although we fell asleep next to each other, safe in the warmth of the other’s frame, we woke up finding ourselves in two other countries. The sunrise brought a new day and that day always seemed to separate us. I was focused on what needed to be done throughout the day, work and senseless tasks around the house. He, on the other hand, was wandering through an oblivion he created for himself. You could see it in his cloudy eyes that nothing in front of him was real to him. He might as well have moved his hand through me, because I was absent in this oblivion of his. He heard me, sensed me, but it was like God in Heaven – there, but in a haunting way.
